ThinkData Works has launched what it describes as a first-to-market automated warehouse discovery solution that combines metadata harvesting with full warehouse virtualization. The Toronto-based data catalog provider says the tool allows users to scan and virtualize multiple datasets within minutes, placing both data and accompanying metadata into a single unified catalog without relocating or re-ingesting information.

The company positions the offering as a response to the cost and inefficiency of managing data across fragmented warehouse environments. By maintaining data residency and enabling direct access from storage platforms, the solution aims to improve compliance, reduce duplication risks, and accelerate insight generation for analysts and data science teams. CEO Bryan Smith emphasized that organizations need fewer points of failure in data management, while VP of Product Lewis Wynne-Jones highlighted the one-click access to both data and metadata as a driver of better decision-making and data democratization.

Founded in 2014, ThinkData Works has raised approximately $9.7 million in funding and operates a platform focused on connecting, cataloging, and governing data across internal and external sources. The launch fits within a rapidly expanding data catalog sector. Market estimates place the global data catalog market at roughly $3.67 billion in 2025, with projections reaching $4.39 billion in 2026 and $10.75 billion by 2031 at a compound annual growth rate near 19.6 percent, driven by cloud adoption, regulatory demands, and the need for trusted data in AI initiatives.

The warehouse discovery capability addresses a practical bottleneck: the time and cost required to locate and govern decentralized datasets. By automating discovery and virtualization, ThinkData Works seeks to shorten the path from raw warehouse content to usable insight. Success will depend on how effectively the platform scales across hybrid and multi-cloud environments and whether it can convert faster access into measurable productivity gains for enterprise users.
